Shopping in Kailua
Kailua has three main shopping centers, the largest is central Kailua town. Central Kailua town boasts nice assortment of boutique shops ranging from clothing, art, Kailua real estate offices, bistros and cafe’s to large chain stores like Safeway, Foodland, Salvation Army. Kailua town is also where the banks are located. Bank of Hawaii, American Savings Bank, Central Pacific, Hawaii National Bank and Territorial Savings Bank are all located in the main central Kailua town.
Aikahi is a smaller shopping complex on the northern side of Kailua, close to the Marine Corp base. Aikahi shopping center has Safeway, several restaurants, a barber and the largest office building in Kailua.
Enchanted Lakes is on the south side of Kailua. Along with several restaurants and boutique stores Enchanted Lakes shopping complex hosts a Ben Franklin store, Safeway as well as Kailua’s only movie theater Kailua Water Gardens.
Parks and recreation in Kailua
Kailua has a variety of beautiful parks.
Kawainui Marsh is a large wetland protected habitat that runs along the majority of Kailua’s western side. Kawainui Marsh has a beautiful park with a large flat area where children’s soccer and baseball is often played, as well as nice shady trees and picnic tables. There is also a long walk & biking path that runs along it’s length on Kailua side. Kawainui marsh park does not have a public restroom facility.
Kailua beach park is the largest and possibly the most beautiful park in Kailua. Activities as Kailua beach park often include windsurfing, kite-surfing, boogey boarding and Kayaking. Birthdays and other parties are often held at the beach parks as permits can be obtained through the City & County of Honolulu. Kailua beach park is a nice place to walk, ride a bike, roller-blade, walk your dog or have a picnic. There is plenty of parking as well as three public restrooms and showers.
Kalama Beach Park
Kalama beach park is a favorite among locals, loved for it’s beautiful grassy park, it’s white sand beach and one of the best spots to play in the waves. Kailua beach park also has a community center which has regular Yoga Asana classes, as well as a public restroom facility and shower. Remember though to keep your dogs on a leash as there are many young children around.
